Going Public

It’s a new day, and thankfully I feel better than yesterday. Thank you, sleep.

What’s on my mind today?

Going public.

The other day I asked Lucy if she read my blog.

“What blog?”

I’ve got a few close friends that know about it, but that’s about it.

I have been sharing my website more, and if you click on the Like I Was Saying link, it’ll bring you to this blog.

Of course, I know this blog isn’t for everybody.

The world is going visual, and some of my posts are dense.

If people read something these days, the fewer characters, the better. (Thank you, Twitter.)

Hell, even I have a hard time reading emails longer than a paragraph. Don’t even get me started on the printed word. Social media, for better or for worse, has rewired our brains.

So you need to write compelling content to keep folks engaged.

Hell, I don’t particularly appreciate reading long emails.

So why do I write a blog in 2022 that people may or may not read?

Well, first, it’s always been a goal of mine forever to keep a daily blog. It’s just something I’ve always liked the idea of doing. There are a few daily bloggers I still read, and I enjoy their content.

I don’t read them every day, but I like dropping into them from time to time.

I think it’s because I like the discipline of the practice. So if you’re going to write - write.

Speaking of practice, the second reason I keep a blog is that writing takes an approach. Since I started writing Skating the River consistently, my writing has improved.

One of my goals is to write good sales copy. Copywriting takes a particular knack. First, you must keep the reader engaged and then hit them with a call to action (CTA).

Now, the only Call To Action for my Skating the River post is more for me. I’m not trying to sell anybody anything, just keeping them informed about the trials and tribulations of this forty-year-old wanna be creative.

Yes, I could probably do this via a Vlog on YouTube, but I still love writing.

That’s the thing: to be a full-time creative, you have to share your creativity.

At this time in human history, there a ton of ways to share your creativity with the world. The internet rammed down the gatekeepers, and you simply have to run into your space and claim it.

There’s still a lot more I want to do on this blog. But, as I’ve said in previous posts, the model for Like I Was Saying has always been Eric Kim’s blog, which is part photography, part philosophical blog.

Yes, I would love to wax philosophy on this blog in time.

I would love to put more photography and video on this blog. That will come in time.

But I think it’s time to go public with this blog.

Is this blog perfect?

Not even close. And I don’t think it ever will be or should be perfect. Nothing ever will be, and that’s as philosophical as I’m getting this morning.
