Like I Was Saying...
And now I’ve got to worry about SEO.
Is this a photography blog?
Well, kind of, sort of, but not really, but yeah.
Yes, it’s tied to my photography page, and yes, the photos I post are mine. Yes, I plan on talking a lot about photography.
But photography isn’t the only thing I’m interested in doing.
Like, I love the idea of writing sales copy.
Keeping people engaged in my writing is a good thing, especially when you’re asking them for money.
Writing takes practice. A lot of practice.
Before committing to writing Skating the River, I only sent the occasional email and responded to comments. Now, I’m writing a minimum of five hundred words a day. More, since I don’t post everything I write.
Since I started writing consistently on this blog, I’ve seen an improvement, or at least it feels like my writing is improving.
I’m also interested in filmmaking. Now, I’m long past wanting to go to Hollywood and running off with Scarlett Johansen (I’m happily married now).
But I’m still interested in telling stories visually. Are they going to be extended ninety-minutes features? Maybe. I don’t know.
Maybe some one-minute short films or short films. Yeah, for now, that seems more my speed.
I am interested in Vlogging, but not in the Casey Neistat sense. I kind of like what Dan Milner is going on his YouTube channel. I have zero desire to do camera reviews.
Plus, as I’ve said before, I’ve always loved the idea of keeping a daily blog or journal.
I enjoyed using Facebook back in the day. I was a big fan of documenting and sharing my life with friends. Facebook was fun until folks started posting their politics.
I don’t post on Facebook anymore. I scroll to catch up on folks and comment on people’s posts, but that’s about it.
For me, this blog supplements Facebook to an extent.
I love Eric Kim, Dan Milner, Dean Wesley Smith, and Matthew Dick’s blog. These are the artists I envision when I think about this blog.
This came up because last night, while researching building a photography business, I found an article about Search Engine Optimization.
Now the author talked about keeping a photography blog more like a diary, like mine, but she did quote one photographer that talked about keeping it solely photography.
See, I like the idea of documenting my “hero’s journey,” if you will.
I like the idea of documenting the journey as well as my progress on that journey.
Either way, I like the direction this blog is heading.
Do I want to do more with it?
Of course.
The beauty of this blog and my website is that I can take it down and start fresh whenever I want.
But at my core, I love to tell stories.
I love sharing my thoughts.
I love taking pictures.
And in time, I’m going to shoot a video.
So this is the direction of Like I Was Saying for now.
The article referenced a quote by Jasmine Starr, “There’s a phrase my friends and I use often: K.I.R. ‘Keep It Real.'”
That's what I intend to do.
